Medium Road Routes

These are fantastic routes that are a challenge. They take you around the local country roads exploring less well known routes. The Path of Condie is a cheeky wee climb and the trip to Dunkeld takes you on amazing riverside paths. Dunning has a couple of steep routes which are Scottish versions of Mont Ventoux and with almost as a good a view from the top.

Around the loch is a cracker and Liam’s shop in St Fillan’s is a welcome stop serving one of the best bacon butties north of Merthyr! The Echt! Takes you on gorgeous local roads, allowing you to extend or shorten the route while remaining within a short distance of Crieff.

Please scroll down the page to read the full route descriptions and to download your chosen route's GPX data.

Local Weather

Below is a five day forecast for the local weather in the Crieff area to help with planning your rides.

Wee Bit Hill & Glen

From Crieff the route takes you to Auchterarder and onto Dunning. Remember to look out for Maggie Wall’s cross, apparently the last witch burning in Scotland! From Dunning, the steep road to Middle Third leads you up and over to Path of Condie.

Just before Milnathort, turn towards Carnbo. From there a lovely ride to Yetts ‘O’ Muckhart and join the Glendevon road back to Auchterarder and from there back to Crieff. A stop over at the Tormaukin is always nice before the long descent to Gleneagles.

Daunder to Dunkeld

A summer time favourite. From Crieff, head east turning off towards Gilmerton and from there lovely country roads all the way to Birnam and Dunkeld. Great selection of cafes to stop at and take a seat next to the river under the bridge. From Birnam, the route crosses the A9, then a lovely route to Bankfoot and onto Methven before joining the Perth to Crieff cycling friendly road back home.

Dynamic Dunning Glen

A long and enjoyable spin up very quiet roads away from Dunning. Enjoy the scenic Dunning Glen before stopping to turn right onto the route as it returns to Auchterarder and Crieff. A lovely route, with a few good stops on the way. The Kirkstyle Inn at Dunning is very popular for food and refreshments.

Aroond the Loch

A mainly flat route, with amazing views. The scenic ‘Coo’ at the top of the page is at Lochearn! A wee side route up to the top of Glenogle adds a bit and it’s nice to pay your respects at a memorial to an RAF Tornado crew. A nice catering van is often there.

A great stop on the way back is at Liam’s café/shop in St Fillan’s. Bacon/egg rolls which are impressive and delicious. The coffee is also top notch. If you have tyres tough enough to enjoy the non-road section from here to Comrie then take it, it’s worth it. Look out for the ‘Rock serpent’! From Comrie enjoy the cycle friendly route returning to Crieff.

ECHT!

Looking for some small quiet roads around Crieff, we devised a route that takes them all in while remaining fairly close to Crieff. Look out for the brick chimney and the road side cake stop at Kinkell Bridge.
